•Reminder: a thing that which causes someone to remember something.
•I love a good reminder. Like someones birthday or a time to post again. I was sitting at my laptop yesterday thinking of a post to write about. It was as if my brain was turned off, I couldn't think of anything, I couldn't focus. Finally, I shut my laptop and went to bed. This morning at work, I'm literally wracking my brain on what to write (you will probably see a lot of this). I felt like I was overthinking everything, so I get onto my Bible app and start looking up verses to help ease me. This one passage washed me from head to toe in peace and now I'm writing this to you.
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?"
They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
"But what about you," he asked. "Who do you say I am?"
Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."
Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messsiah.
-Matthew 16:13-20 (NIV)
•Wow! This is again, one of my favorite bible passages, because I feel like the disciples knew exactly who Jesus is. They knew he was the Messiah. But like everybody, they needed a reminder of who Jesus is. That He is bigger and greater than our wildest imaginations. I picture in my head of them sitting around a table and looking at each other wondering why Jesus was asking such a crazy question. But Simon Peter (now just Peter) kept his eyes on Jesus and said out right, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God", without hesitation or fear.
•Lets get a better insight of who Jesus is...
-Author and Perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2)
-Bread of Life (John 6:35)
-Beloved son of God (Matthew 3:17)
-Deliverer (1 Thessalonians 1:10)
-"I am" (John 8:58)
-King of Kings (Revelation 17:14)
-Rock (1 Corinthians 10:4)
-Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6)
-The Way (John 14:6)
-Supreme Creator Over All (Colossians 1:16)
These are just a few of the many beautiful names we have to just begin to explain who Jesus is.
•Now, I can tell you that while this may seem like a friendly reminder of who Jesus is, but I want to go a bit deeper into this.
•Like I said, I picture Peter never taking his eyes off Jesus while he reminded the disciples of who Jesus truly is, without hesitation or fear. My question to you is, why cant we do the same? If Peter can look Jesus, the son of GOD, in the eyes and proclaim who he is, I think we can tell a friend all about Jesus' miracles. Peter was bold and outspoken, but it got the message through.
•this reminds me of another passage in the bible about Peter's faith in Jesus. You can probably guess what it is.
Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.
But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
“Come,” he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
-Matthew 14:22-33 (NIV)
•I don't want to make a name for myself here on earth, I want all the glory to go to God. But if my name does happen to come up, I want people to talk about how faithful I am to God, how boldly I walk in my faith, and how in everything I do, I do for God. I don't want to question who I am or who God is. I want to talk boldly and fearfully and never take my eyes off Jesus.
•I pray that this would is a reminder for you to remember who God is and never take your eyes off Him. Walk boldly in your faith and remember you are son or daughter of the one true King of heaven and earth.
